As a Principal Data Engineer, you'll play a crucial role in spearheading transformative projects within our organization. The Cloud Operations Resilience Engineering (CORE) Technology division is dedicated to enhancing Capital One's foundational cloud infrastructure, focusing on observability, connectivity, resilience, and availability. Key Responsibilities: • Collaborate across Agile teams to design, develop, test, and implement innovative technical solutions using full-stack development tools. • Engage with a team of expert developers who specialize in machine learning, distributed microservices, and comprehensive systems. • Utilize programming languages such as Java, Scala, and Python, along with both Open Source RDBMS and NoSQL databases. Experience with cloud-based data warehousing services like Redshift and Snowflake is essential. • Share your enthusiasm for technology trends through experimentation, community engagement, and mentoring your engineering peers. • Partner with digital product managers to deliver powerful cloud-based solutions that help millions achieve financial empowerment. • Conduct rigorous unit testing and code reviews with team members to ensure high-quality, efficient, and performant code. Basic Qualifications: • Bachelor's Degree. • A minimum of 4 years of application development experience (excludes internship experience). • At least 2 years of experience in big data technologies. • A minimum of 1 year of experience with cloud computing, including AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud. Preferred Qualifications: • 7+ years of application development expertise, including proficiency in Python, SQL, Scala, or Java. • 4+ years of experience working with public cloud platforms (AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud). • 4+ years of experience with distributed data and computing tools such as MapReduce, Hadoop, Hive, EMR, Kafka, Spark, Gurobi, or MySQL. • 4+ years of experience with real-time data and streaming applications. • 4+ years of experience implementing NoSQL databases (MongoDB, Cassandra). • 4+ years of data warehousing experience with Redshift or Snowflake. • 4+ years of experience with UNIX/Linux, including basic commands and shell scripting. • At least 2 years of experience with Agile engineering practices. This role is not eligible for employment authorization sponsorship. The salary for this position is competitive, with expected full-time annual compensation ranging from $193,400 to $220,700 in McLean, VA and $175,800 to $200,700 in Richmond, VA.
