Title: Database Architect Location: Remote Duration: 7+ Months Job Description: • This position will support the organization's modernization efforts by designing and implementing cloud-native database solutions in Microsoft Azure to meet the demands of highly available, transparent, and auditable public-facing data systems. • The candidate will collaborate with engineering, analytics, and governance teams to architect resilient, scalable, and secure data platforms in compliance with regulatory and public accountability requirements. • The role requires expertise in Azure data services, modern database lifecycle practices, and a deep appreciation for the challenges associated with high-profile, publicly scrutinized data sets. Skills: • Experience architecting and administering enterprise-grade database systems, with at least 2 years focused on cloud-native database services in Azure • Demonstrated experience designing and implementing solutions using Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance, and Azure Cosmos DB. • Strong understanding of cloudnative design patterns, including statelessness, elasticity, and infrastructure-as-code (IaC). • Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as ARM templates, Bicep, or Terraform to provision and manage database infrastructure. • Familiarity with Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse, and Azure Monitor for integrating, orchestrating, and monitoring database workflows • Deep understanding of data classification, masking, encryption, and role-based access control (RBAC) in Azure environments. • Experience supporting highly scrutinized, public-facing datasets (e.g., elections-related data or open data portals), including audit trail design. • Proven ability to implement and manage disaster recovery, high availability, and geo-replication strategies within Azure. • Experience developing logical and physical data models that meet performance and transparency requirements while preserving data provenance. • Proficiency with T-SQL for scripting, automation, and diagnostics, with a focus on automation of repeatable processes. • Demonstrated ability to evaluate data storage tradeoffs (e.g., performance vs cost vs governance constraints) in a payas-you-go cloud environment. • Experience participating in design reviews, security assessments, and data governance audits, especially where data is subject to oversight • Familiarity with DevSecOps practices, including versioned schemas and the integration of database change management into CI/CD pipelines. • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience preparing technical documentation for public consumption or legal review. • Experience in Agile/Scrum environments and modern DevOps workflows. • Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate, Azure Solutions Architect Expert, or DP-203 (Azure Data Engineer Associate) • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field is a plus.
