Job Description JOB SUMMARY The System Administration Analyst, under the direction of the System Administrators or Manager-Data Center, is responsible for ensuring the reliability of the systems operating environment. Assist in developing and implementing network server standards, procedures and measures regarding security, recoverability, and performance including the development and implementation of procedures for software distribution, software currency, system backups/restorations, and virus detection/removal. Builds programming scripts automating the daily operations of the system and participates in system integration efforts. Participates in system testing and monitors resource utilization form capacity planning. Sets up new profiles and creates and updates access permissions. Maintain systems including backups, patch management, upgrades and hot fixes. Provide production support, diagnosing and fixing hardware and software problems. Exercises no supervision. Essential Functions • Determines customer’s needs and translate those needs into Information Technology specific requirements. • Under the direction of the System Administrator, installs, configures, and manages server/workstation hardware, Windows/Unix operating systems, and enterprise applications including MS Project, RightFax, RRAS, ESRI, LIMS, Lawson, Hansen, etc, in a highly available environment. • Manages, test, debug, and modifies file system security. • Ensures servers and workstations are scanned for viruses and performs removal procedures. • Manages and implements Operating System security updates and system patches for all domain systems. • Performs hardware/software auditing/deployment using Microsoft Systems Management Server. • May automate administrative processes utilizing VBScript, SQL, HTML, and other scripting languages under the direction of the System Administrator or Data Center Manager. • Provides consultation and guidance on complex projects and meets with internal customers, management, and vendors to provide top level contributor/specialist function. • Designs, configures, and administers backup and restore strategies. • Configures user accounts, manages group policies, and maintains appropriate network security groups for the organizations Active Directory structure. • Documents, maintains, tags, inventories, upgrades, or replaces hardware and software systems. • Assists Client Support when needed to upgrade, install, and troubleshoot workstations, laptops, and other IT related tasks. • Performs other duties as assigned. DECISION MAKING • This position works under general supervision. • This position may provide functional guidance to internal/external customers as a technical lead in various projects. MINIMUM REQUIREMENT • Associate’s degree in Computer Science or Information Systems from an institution accredited by a nationally recognized accrediting agency. • Two years’ experience in installing, configuring, and troubleshooting PC/Workstations and peripherals in a network environment. • Valid Class “C” Texas Driver’s License as consistent with SAWS Driving Policy. • A+ certification. • Obtain 2 out of the 5 Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE) in Server Infrastructure within six months. Preferred Qualification • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Information Systems from an institution accredited by a nationally recognized accrediting agency. • MCSE in Server Infrastructure. • Four years’ experience in installing, configuring, and troubleshooting PC/Workstations and peripherals in a network environment.
